Radar: Short and Sweet Film Festival, Farzana Doctor's "Six Metres of Pavement," Elvis Mondays at the Drake, Atheist, Last Chance To Reason, Hallows Die

FILM | Short and Sweet Launch
Originally launched in London in 2006, Short & Sweet is a weekly short film festival that highlights short films, music videos and short animations. The idea here is that these are under-appreciated art forms worthy of critical consideration and just plain old celebration. The organizers promise a relaxed and social environment, and the best part is it's free!
No One Writes to the Colonel (460 College Street), Films start at 7:30PM

LITERATURE | TINARS presents Farzana Doctor's "Six Metres of Pavement"
Author Farzana Doctor's latest work, "Six Metres of Pavement" is a story about life after a tragic mistake. This is Doctor's second novel, and her first, "Stealing Nasreen", was nominated for the Masala!Mehndi!Masti! People's Choice Award, and did very well with the critics. Susan G. Cole from NOW Magazine will be engaging the author in a 'conversational' format to dig deeper into this novel, and the issues - both cultural and sociological - surrounding it. Toronto singer/songwriter Sarah Greene will provide some musical entertainment.
Gladstone Hotel Ballroom (1214 Queen Street West) 7PM $5

MUSIC | Elvis Mondays
The torch continues to burn brightly at The Drake Hotel Underground... On even the dullest nights, where nary a scrap of Rock seems present in this great metropolis, Elvis Monday's doors are open, welcoming purveyors of the cutting edge. Tonight's musical menu includes favorites People Of Canada, Lauren Mann and the Fairly Odd Folk, Dusty Wallace, AZORES, and Unheimlich Manoeuvre. Amen.
The Drake Hotel (1150 Queen Street West) 9PM FREE

MUSIC | Atheist, Last Chance To Reason, Hallows Die, Profaner
Heavy alert! A metal and death-metal fest at The Annex Wreckroom tonight! Our headliner Atheist is a death metal band from Florida. This group has been at it since 1984, though several personnel and name changes have gone down since then. These guys have a diverse sound that pushes the genre's limits with hints of Latin and jazz fusion. Also on the bill are Last Chance To Reason from Maine, locals Hallows Die bring their "melodic death metal" vibes, and Profaner from Grimsby is also in the house.
The Annex Wreckroom (794 Bathurst Street) 7PM

MUSIC | Krakowiak/Ward/Yolevsky/Torres/Walker/Clement
A very interesting ensemble plays at Somewhere There this evening. Tomasz Krakowiak will be featured on percussion, but also providing visuals via the epidiascope, which is certainly a retro take on the 'projection' thing, as this device predates the overhead projector, and casts the image of opaque objects onto any surface. Joining Krakowiak will be Steve Ward on trombone and electronics, Mitch Yolevsky on clarinet, Paul Torres and Joda Clement will play synthesizer, and Bryan Walker rounds out this lineup on guitar.
Somewhere There (227 Sterling Road, Unit 112) 8PM $8/PWYC
