Radar: The History of Parkdale, The People's History of Toronto, Capacity Fundraiser, Bats or Swallows, Sara Bareilles at The Phoenix

Lecture | Parkdale: The "Flowery Suburb" Illustrated Lecture
Toronto's hippest 'hood has many stories to tell, including its infancy as a 'suburban-style' alternative to residing in the downtown core. At what promises to be a very interesting and revealing "illustrated" talk, Marta O'Brien, an architectural historian, will take us through the history of Parkdale through its many interesting buildings, and churches.
Bloor/Gladstone Library - Community Room (1101 Bloor St W) 7pm
FREE

Culture | The People's History of Toronto
What better way to spend a Monday eve than chilling at the Lula Lounge, and experiencing some compelling personal histories and tales from such edgy local luminaries as Rozina Kazi, Avvy Go, and Victoria Freeman. With the Max Metrault Trio supplying the Cuban sounds, and all proceeds benefiting adult literacy via Parkdale Project Read, it's a good time for a good cause. Hosted by CBC Radio's Garvia Bailey. Lula Lounge (1585 Dundas W) Doors at 7:30pm
Suggested donation: $5 to $20.

Fundraiser | GIVE=LOVE "Capacity" Fundraiser
CAPACITY is a group design show founded and curated by Erin McCutcheon and Katherine Morely. This fundraiser to help launch the show promises to be great with comedienne Nikki Payne and others entertaining, plus a silent auction with very cool items up from grabs, plus food and more. Should be both a blast, and a boost to the Toronto independent design community.
The Tranzac Club (292 Brunswick Ave.) 7pm
PWYC - $10 suggested.

Literature | Teri Vlassopoulos Toronto Launch for Bats or Swallows
Originally from Toronto, and now residing in Montreal, Teri Vlassopoulos is poised to release her first short-story collection, Bats or Swallows, after having both her fiction and non-fiction appear in numerous publications over the last few years. Some great reading and palm pressing is guaranteed - there's a reason why pubs make great venues for literary events.
The Dora Keogh (141 Danforth Ave) 7pm
FREE

Music | Sara Bareilles
A California native, the launching of Sara Bareilles' career was helped greatly by her appearances and the placement of her music in various films, such as Girl Play and Loving Annabelle. When her single "Love Song" was featured on a Rhapsody commercial in 2007 it sealed the deal, and she had a hot Top 10 single on her hands. The singer/songwriter/pianist will be joined on the bill by Cary Brothers and Holly Conlan. Phoenix Concert Theatre (410 Sherbourne St.)
Tickets $22.50 @ Rotate This, Soundscapes, 7PM All Ages
