MUSIC | Neon Indian w/ Prefuse 73
This should be a good one at Lee's tonight, particularly for those like a hefty dose of nostalgia thrown into their music. No, Neon Indian and Prefuse 73 won't be hitting all the same references, but both, in their own way, play with conventional the pop-rock-electro narratives before dismantling them and offering up something new and unique.

READING | Marcus Boon and John Giorno launch "In Praise of Copying"
The popular, This Is Not a Reading Series, continues with the launch of what is surely a timely title. "In Praise of Copying" started as a undergraduate class in the English Department at York University where Boon teaches, and tracks the degree to which sampling, adaptation and plagiarism permeate contemporary culture.

ACTIVISM | THIS is what a demonstration looks like
It'll be interesting to see whether this catches on or whether the title of the event(s) will be rendered an apt statement about the relative apathy of the average citizen. In response to recent revoke of G20 defendant Alex Hundert's bail, his friends and family are calling for for "demonstrations to take place across this land from Tuesday October 12th (preferably) to Wednesday October 13th to defend our social movements and stand up for our friends and allies currently being targeted by never-ending state repression."
Rally at 55 Gould Street (Ryerson Student Centre) at 5 pm

COMEDY | I Heart Jokes
Not much to say about this one other than the fact that it's cheap comedy. And cheap comedy is almost always good. If you get a bad comic, it's fun to watch him or her make a mess of it on stage, and if you get a good one, well then you're in for less guilt-ridden laughs.

MUSIC | Howard Jones
The electro-infused, Buddhist-inspired music of Howard Jones will fill the Mod Club tonight. It's the first time the electronic pioneer has been through Toronto in 15 years, so if you're an 80s fan, this would be a good one to catch before the next installment in 2025.
