SALE I First Annual Queen St. Sidewalk Sale
Bargain hunters rejoice! The Queen St. West BIA is hosting a massive sidewalk sale. Spanning from Osgoode Subway Station to Bathurst St., quite a few retailers and restaurants are participating with good deals on offer. There's even cheap wine available from the Wine Rack. GALLERY I Traffic: Conceptual Art in Canada 1965-1980
September often marks the return of major shows at many art galleries around the city. Case in point: The Justina M. Barnicke Gallery is hosting a survey of contemporary Canadian conceptual art (that's a mouthful) produced in a period that saw the rise of two major artists: Michael Snow and Jeff Wall. The opening was last night, but a trip on the weekend will ensure that you can dwell with the pieces for a bit. Watch out for our review of the show in the next Art Agenda.

WORKSHOP I Tricks of the Trade: Freelance Journalism Workshop with Nadja Sayej
ArtStars* host and Press Pass organizer, Nadja Sayej, offers this workshop to hopeful freelancers who have yet to master an industry that is, to be honest, rather complicated at times. If Sayej can help with even half the subject matter of the workshop -- business plans, perfect pitches, tax write-offs, "kill-free" contracts -- it'd worth the while of any aspiring journalist. I must say, however, that I'm intrigued by the option for a "private tutorial." One can only imagine the learning opportunities on offer in such a setting.

SKATE COMPETITION I Battle at the Beaches Skate Jam
I used to skate when I was younger. In fact, it was an obsession for a few years. As such, I have immense respect for talented and creative skaters who are willing to push the limits with their moves. There'll be a lot of that happening at the Ashbridge's Bay Skatepark on Saturday as skaters compete to advance from round to round. And along with the skating, there's quite the contingent of bands and DJs on hand to keep things lively. Feeling nostalgic? Throw down your 10 bones and strut your stuff (a.k.a embarrass yourself).

PARTY I The Opening of the TIFF Bell Lightbox
The lights are about to go on at TIFF's headquarters, and to commemorate this fact, organizers are holding a block party. Those who head down to King and John streets will be treated to live music and access to the new building. Karkwa, The Sadies and Radio Radio are confirmed to play, but the big star (announced early Saturday), is K'naan. The event gets underway at 11am.

GALLERY I Post No Bills: A Celebration of the Film Poster
Feeling in the mood to explore the world of film, but don't want to brave the crowds at TIFF? Out on Queen East is a cool little show featuring movie posters. An often overlooked art form, those interested in lowbrow will be keen to examine to degree to which these art-commercial hybrids herald the genre.

READING I Naked Girls Reading Dr. Seuss!
The girls from Skin Tight Outta Sight will be making every young man's dream come true by reading from the wonderful Dr. Seuss in the buff. I'm not even sure what else there is to say about this. Just don't be a creep, and I'm sure it'll a be a blast.

FILM SCREENING I Jonathan Demme's The Agronomist
Jonathan Demme is holding an exhibition of his collection of Haitian and Jamaican art at the Gladstone, and in connection with the show he'll be screening his new film about Haitian journalist, Jean Dominique. All the proceeds go to the ongoing relief efforts in Haiti, so this is a good chance to get culturally edified and to confirm what a nice person you are.
