Radar: The Beauties In-Store, Free Meditation Class, Winter Gloves, She Said Boom accepting donations for fire-displaced family

MUSIC | The Beauties
When you ask people what kind of music they like, many say "anything but country." That's fair since turning on CMT usually gives you either a good laugh or a good puke. But then there's The Beauties, a local five piece that are reinventing how you think about country music. They're playing two back to back shows later this month at the Horseshoe but if you just want to check them out first, head to Sonic Boom at 7 p.m. where they'll be playing in the basement. They're best to be seen in a basement anyway.
Sonic Boom Records, 512 Bloor St W, Free, 7pm

CLASS | Free Meditation Class
Today, there's a free meditation class at the Kadampa Meditation Centre Canada... I'm not going to write anything about this. It would be boring anyway.
KMC Canada, 631 Crawford St, Free, 7pm

MUSIC | Winter Gloves In-Store
Winter Gloves are a good band, but with Labour day come and gone, the word winter is a scary thing. Everyone loves fall (me included) but it's more the idea of fall that's nice. Fall colours and hoodies is what I think of, but in reality there's a lot of high winds and Christmas music. Winter Gloves should change their name. Not to Summer Gloves, because the only people that wear gloves in the summer are people with eczema and those doing Michael Jackson impressions. Fine, Winter Gloves is a good name, but lets not think about winter just yet.
Kops Records, 229 Queen St W, Free, 5:30pm

CHARITY I She Said Boom accepting donations for family displaced by the College St. fire
Though it's not really an event, I thought I'd mention that She Said Boom will be accepting donations for a family whose apartment was destroyed in the fire that started on Sunday night at College and Bellevue. Given that they were left with only the clothes on their back and the fact that school starts today, items like clothing and school supplies are desperately needed. Gift certificates would also work.
She Said Boom, 372 College St., 11-8pm
