Radar: Clothing Swap, Bent Words, Electro Night, Big Trouble in Little Portugal, Scissor Sisters

FASHION | Clothing Swap & Vintage Trading Post
So here's two scenarios: 1) you've been riding your bike, swimming, jogging - being generally active all summer and you've lost so much weight that you don't fit into your fall clothes. Or 2) you've spent every day lying in the park, scarfing ice cream & street meat and you've gained enough weight that your fall pants are a little uncomfortably tight. In either scenario, you're going to want to head to the Holy Oak Cafe with your ill fitting clothes where you can swap them for something else. Way better than just adding to that already bursting closet. All clothing welcome - but leave your bed bugs at home!
Holy Oak Cafe, 1241 Bloor St W, Free, 6pm

DISCUSSION | Bent Words
Do you get overwhelmed when you wake up, start up your computer and attempt to sift through the crazy amount of new information on the internet? Me too. I wish there was a group of people who could just tell me what sites are worthy of checking out. Oh great, there's a panel of bloggers, journalists and social media experts getting together to discuss this very topic. Then afterwards they'll be doing an open format Q&A so you can pick their brains on everything from politics to celebrity gossip.
Gladstone Hotel - Art Bar, 1214 Queen St W, Free, 7pm

MUSIC | Electro Night
It hasn't reached the huge popularity of venues like Sneaky Dees or The Horseshoe, but Smiling Buddah on College is one of the most underrated music venues in the city. They're constantly holding shows for musicians and DJ's that you probably haven't heard of, but should. Tonight would be a great night to check it out since it's Electro Night with local acts Dirty Inputs, Triads, and Minisystem. I haven't heard of them either, but it's PWYC can so might as well go and make a judgment call.
Smiling Buddah, 961 College St, PWYC, 10pm

PARTY | Big Trouble in Little Portugal
If the fact that the name of this party is based off of one of the best movies of the 80's isn't enough for you, then I don't know what to tell ya. Oh, what if I told you this bar had a free Star Wars pinball machine. Tonight at Unlovable, Scott Cudmore DJ's his weekly party full of 60's pop, doowop, garage, soul and whatever else he feels like. It's the last day of August which pretty much means the last night of summer and this sounds like a perfect soundtrack for it.
Unlovable, 1415 Dundas St W, Free, 10pm

MUSIC | Scissor Sisters

When Bono calls your band "the best Pop group in the world at the moment", you're probably doing something right. That comment could also completely turn you off of a band, depending on your feelings about Bono. When he was referring to the Scissor Sisters though, he very well could have been right. The New York disco/glam rock band have gained critical and commercial fame with their first two albums, and are now back with their first full length album in four years Night Work. They're bringing their spectacular 80's New York club scene influenced show to the Sound Academy for one night only - and probably the last time in a long time.
Sound Academy, 11 Polson St, $43, 8pm
