BOOKS AND LIT | The Scream in High Park
Twelve authors will commandeer the Dream in High Park's outdoor stage to perform open-air readings tonight in the final event of this year's Scream Literary Festival. The High Park reading is the original event that launched the Scream Literary festival way back in 1993, and the fest has gone on to become an annual tradition that pushes the boundaries of provocative fiction. This year the fest has wrangled Gil Adamson, Tony Burgess, Angela Carr, Brian Joseph Davis, Jeff Derksen, Linh Dinh and seven other innovative writers for the guerilla-style reading.

PARTY | Semi Precious Weapons Monster's Ball Afterparty
Back when they got their start drawing 300 people in tiny clubs in Manhattan, glam-rock band Semi Precious Weapons did a little-known singer named Lady Gaga a favour and let her play a couple of opening sets for them. Three years later and Gaga is an international sensation, and she's the one lending them a hand. The band is the opening act on Gaga's current Monster's Ball tour, and after appearing with her tonight at the ACC they're hitting up the Barn for a DJ set with New York's Marc Alan Gray and Vivi Diamond.

FESTIVAL | Mad Pride 2010
Psychiatric survivors have a lot to be proud of. There are few things more difficult than overcoming mental illness, and the Mad Pride festival celebrates the achievements of those who battle not only psychiatric issues but the stigma associated with them. For the next week free and accessible events will be held across the city with a focal point at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health on Queen Street. The festival begins today with presentations entitled Know Your Legal Rights and What Gives Us Strength, followed by a screening of Mad and Proud, a documentary on two women who recovered from schizophrenia.

PARTY | Monday Meetings at the Social with the Killabits and the Tapedeck Bros
Sure it's Monday and you have to work tomorrow, but that's no reason not to get your party on at the Social tonight. I heard you were trying to get fired anyway. Local remix masters the Killabits will be joined by box-headed beat duo the Tapedeck Bros. to help you make some bad decisions, and with $2 drinks before midnight and $3.50 pints all night, you can hardly afford not to get drunk.

FILM | La Rabbia
TIFF Cinematheque's summer schedule continues with a one-night only screening of the Italian masterwork La Rabbia. An avid communist, Pier Paolo Pasolini was a giant of post-war Italian filmmaking before he was murdered in 1975. This 1963 film is his impassioned depiction of his view of the world, which he saw as rife with injustice and unhappiness. Technically little more than a collage of newsreel footage, La Rabbia (which translates as "the Rage") is alternately humourous and depressing and amounts to a insightful critique of celebrity culture, European society, and Cold War anxiety. The film is one of 18 Pasolini works being shown this summer as part of Cinematheque's retrospective on the auteur.
