FILM | The Book Revue: From Page to Screen with Geoff Pevere
Everyone knows that Hollywood ran out of ideas years ago. These days, the only good stories on the silver screen are adapted from novels, hence the success of such paper-to-celluloid tales as the Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and that Twilight crap. Tonight the Revue Cinema launches a new monthly event cleverly titled the Book Revue, which will see Toronto Star movie critic Geoff Pevere lead cinephiles through what it takes to make a good film out of a good read. For the debut screening Pevere's chosen Cormac McCarthy's No Country for Old Men, which he considers to be one of the best adaptation's of all time. The movie will be accompanied by a discussion and complimentary refreshments.

STORYTELLING | Dime Store Novels
Dime Store Novels is a monthly storytelling night hosted by local comedians Bob Kerr and Kayla Lorette. Toronto's answer to New York's famous series The Moth, the event gives amateur storytellers 7 minutes to tell a tale about themselves based on a certain theme. The only rules are that you can't use notes, and the story has to be true but not necessarily funny. If you want to find out what skeletons are lurking in your fellow Torontonians closets, come check out tonight's episode which is based on the theme "What's your lie?"

MUSIC | The Zoobombs at the Silver Dollar
Hands down the craziest concert I have ever seen in this city was a Zoobombs show at the Silver Dollar a few years back. In the middle of the set by the Japanese rockers, legendary hard-living promoter Dan Burke, who's known as much for fighting bands as booking them, suddenly appeared onstage with a baby belonging to of the band members and, babe under his arm, began belting out incomprehensible lyrics into the microphone while the band enthusiastically played along to a terrified half-empty room. It was just the latest episode in an eleven-year love affair between the Burke and the Tokyo band, who play in the club so often they probably have a permanent reservation at the Waverley Hotel. They return to play yet another show at the Dollar tonight, and I can confidently say you literally have no idea what will happen once they hit the stage. Biblical and French act Enfant Terrible open.

GALLERY | Drama and Desire: Aritsts and Theatre
The AGO's major summer exhibition, Drama and Desire opened this past weekend and explores the link between paintings and theatre by recreating the works of the masters live onstage. Actors from the Stratford Festival and Dream in High Park, and dancers from Opera Atelier have been recruited for the project, which also includes props from famous Canadian theatrical productions like the original donkey's head worn in the 1976 Stratford production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Originally conceived by the president of the Musee d'Orsay in Paris, the exhibition includes works by the likes of Edgar Degas, William Blake, and Henri Louise-Lautrec. Runs til September 26.

GALLERY | OutrĂŠ
In a couple of days a million people will descend on Toronto to participate in the big gay party that is the G20 Pride Toronto. While parades of naked leather daddies, sexy sailors, and hugely endowed men are good fun for everyone, they're not exactly a thoughtful examination of queer sexuality. For a more cerebral encounter with what it means to be gay, check out OutrĂŠ, a new exhibition by Montreal based artist Marie Bourdages. An official pre-Pride event, the show includes the latest of Bourdages ghostly erotic paintings and runs til July 3.
