FUNDRAISER | Toronto Plays for Haiti
The plight of Haiti has begun to drop out of the news cycle but thankfully benefits for the devastated country continue to be organized. A high profile line up of Canadian bands hits the stage at the Sound Academy tonight in a joint fundraising effort from the Edge and Unicef that will see performances from the Trews, Die Mannequin, USS, the Junction, illScarlet and others. Olympic gold medalist Donovan Bailey, ex-Argo quarterback Damon Allen, and current Argos Ray Fontaine and Obed Cetoute also join the cause, and no doubt there will be tons of surprise guests. There is no fixed ticket price for the event, organizers just ask that you donate whatever you can.

FILM | Trust Us, This Is All Made Up
Each week dozens of improv comedy shows are performed across Toronto, and let's face it, they're hit and miss. Improv is unpredictable, that's the whole point. But the 2009 film Trust Us, This Is All Made Up eliminates the guesswork by documenting a comedy show that, while entirely improvised, already happened, and we know it turned out hilariously. The stars of the film are TJ Jagodowski and David Pasquesi, two legendary improv comics working the circuit in America's comedy capital Chicago. The film not only captures an evening of incredible and spontaneous performances but delves into the minds behind one of comic theatre's most difficult art forms. Impatient Theatre hosts the official Toronto screening of the movie tonight following an evening of homegrown improv.

MUSIC | Blue Rodeo at Massey Hall
Twenty-three years and twelve albums into their career, Blue Rodeo have established themselves at the very pinnacle of that genre affectionately known as Canrock and will go down as one of the most successful bands in the history of Canadian music. It's somewhat curious then that their three-night run at Massey Hall to promote their latest record The Things We Left Behind was not entirely sold out as of Monday night. While the band has never deprived fans of plentiful tour dates, shows at Massey really are something special and as a bonus Oshawa young'uns Cuff the Duke open on the third night.

FILM | Animation Favourites
For whatever reason, the ability to make great animated short films is as ingrained in the Canadian genome as much as our proclivity for winter sports and obsequious politeness. As part of the WinterCity festival the National Film Board presents an evening of animated favourites tonight, including such gems as The Cat Came Back and The Sweater. A portion of the evening should go to remembering the late Kate McGarrigle, whose soundtrack to the beloved short The Log Driver's Waltz warmed the hearts of many.

MUSIC | Free Concert Series at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts
Take a long lunch this week and check out theCanadian Opera Company's diverse series of free noon-hour performances. Today the young and supremely talented Canadian pianist Samuel Deason performs a repertoire of 20th Century works, showing why his is a name you will hear more and more frequently in the coming years. On Wednesday dancer and choreographer Denise Fujiwara performs excerpts from her new work along with multi-Dora winner Susie Burpee and on Thursday drum virtuoso Paul DeLong revisits the work of Steely Dan.
