FILM | Petropolis
The latest feature from Canadian filmmaker Peter Mettler explores Alberta's tar sands project from an aerial perspective, giving viewers a glimpse of the massive scale and impact of the world's largest energy operation. The huge scope of the project - which is the size of England - can only really be understood from the air, and Mettler captures indelible images of a landscape decimated by industry and dominated by the power of petroleum. The film screens for the next six nights at the Royal, with each screening accompanied by a Q & A with guest speakers including Mettler and Bruce Cox, Greenpeace Canada's executive directory. Tickets released 30 minutes before each show, runs til January 27.

GALLERY | Digitalscapes
Ryerson Radio and TV collective Vapor Media debuts its interactive show tonight at Thrush Holmes Empire. Five digital installations will fill the gallery, tempting visitors to interact with the virtual world as they simultaneously mingle in the real-world situation of a gallery party. Vapor Media promises to engage all your senses with DJs spinning tunes all night and alcohol being (responsibly) served. It's an invite-only party however, and invitations can be obtained by emailing the collective here.

MUSIC | One Hundred Dollars Single Release
Easily one of Toronto's best country bands, One Hundred Dollars hit the stage tonight to celebrate their latest release in their Regional 7-Inch Series. The concept behind the series is to release vinyl singles on different labels across the country with each song reflecting the region of the label on which it's released. The band continues to gain momentum from their stellar 2008 Forest of Tears, which introduced the world to the incredible voice of frontwoman Simone Schmidt, whose raspy delivery is perfectly embodies the bands stories of heartbreak and poverty. The Lonesome Ace String Band opens.

FILM | The Images Festival Presents: BjĂśrk's VoltaĂŻc
As previously reported by blogTO.com, the concert film by Icelandic songstress Bjork makes its Canadian debut tonight as part of the Images Festival. One of the most unique voices in contemporary pop music, Bjork has always had a flare for the visually spectacular and seemingly everything she does, from her music videos to her Oscar outfits, have the ability to catch the eye. The film follows her 2008 Volta Tour to Paris and Reykjavik and captures her whacked out performances complete with lasers, Avatar-like make-up, and of plenty of ridiculous costumes.

PARTY | Goin' Steady's Friday Night Fish Fry
Toronto's favourite retro dance party is going on a two-month hiatus after tonight, so this is your last chance to catch Goin' Steady until March 27. As usual the ballroom at the Gladstone will be filled with partiers bopping to the sound of 50s and 60s soul, doo-wop and jump blues, including all your oldie favourites and a few unknown gems. Ten bucks is a steep price to pay for a dance party, but if you email the Goin' Steady DJs before 6 pm today they'll slap you on the $5 guestlist.

GALLERY | Mitchell F. Chan's Visions of the Amen
Toronto-based artist Mitchell F. Chan is only 25 years old and his latest installation project exemplifies the grandiose ambition of a young artist. Inhabiting the swanky Spoke Club Gallery, Visions of the Amen is an architectural-scale installation of brass bars and strings which vibrate in response to sound and carve out different shapes in the air depending on the force and frequency of the note. The structure will be brought to life tonight by a performance from soprano Ashleigh Semkiw at the installation's opening reception, and as an added bonus Chan's work will share the space with pieces by architectural absurdist and bright young star of the Toronto art scene Tom Ngo.

PARTY | Lipstick, Cherry
The Drake's most popular dance party returns tonight for its first instalment of 2010. Special guest DJ Jacques L. Dorsey will be joined by Lipstick's resident turntable jockey Pam to spin the latest in electro, house, and new wave and Pam promises absolutely no hip hop (not even Drake?!). Visuals tonight will be brought to you by the Blacklight Association of Canada, helpfully revealing all your unwanted stains.
