THEATRE | Cloud 9
After a week of previews, the long-awaited remount of renowned British-Canadian playwright Caryl Churchill's 1979 play Cloud 9 opens today. The play was the first of Churchill's to receive wide acclaim and is imbued with her now-famous satirical wit and keen political consciousness. Set in British colonial Africa during the Victorian Era and 1970's Britain, the work takes aim at political and sexual oppression using a revolving cast of men playing women, women playing men, and white actors portraying black characters. This latest version of the award winning play stars Ann-Marie MacDonald, Ben Carlson, and Megan Follows and is directed by Dora Award winner Alisa Palmer. Runs til February 21.

MEDIA | Arianna Huffington: The Brave New World of the "New Media"
In the crowded American media landscape, Arianna Huffington has managed to carve out a place of her own. The hugely popular Huffington Post is a site like no other, combining ultra left-wing political opinion pieces with viral videos about cute cats, sports highlights, TV clips and all the other detritus of our fractured pop culture. Using this innovative model Huffington has become a major voice in the American political landscape and is arguably the left's answer to grassroots conservative talk radio; polemic and unbalanced, but always entertaining. Huffington comes to Koerner Hall today to discuss the future of media as part of Advertising Week.

THEATRE | Come Tumbling Down
Tonight the brand new theatre company Theatre in the Red presents its inaugural production Come Tumbling Down, a story of deception, danger and romance. The story revolves around Jack and Jill, a couple who have just begun dating but who each harbour some dark secrets in their past. The directorial debut of Tim Chisholm, the play stars Blain Watters, Nawa Nicole Simon, and Julian DeZotti, a youngster who's already been tagged as an actor to watch by Toronto's theatre critics. Runs til January 30.

FILM | Free Advanced Screening of Edge of Darkness
Is it just me, or is Mel Gibson's endless desire to make revenge movies becoming disturbing? His pre-DUI flicks Payback and Ransom were a little creepy but now that Gibson's firmly entrenched in the anti-Semitic paranoia phase of his career, you have to wonder exactly who he thinks has a little vengeance coming their way. His latest sees him playing a cop who goes rogue after the death of his daughter and vows to hunt down her killers outside the law, as they say. Not only do we get to see Gibson attempt a Boston accent, he also utters such great rogue cop lines as "I'm the guy who's got nothing to lose!" The movie hits theatres January 29, but you get see it for free today at Innis.

BICYCLE | BikeChain Workshop: Wheelbuilding
Toronto's cyclists have so far been blessed with unseasonably mild weather this year and thankfully haven't had to deal with the bike-destroying conditions that are normal for January. But no doubt there's a ton of snow and ice heading our way soon, and when it comes you may want to know a few things about bike maintenance; like how to rebuild your wheel once you've bent it to a 45 degree angle in a streetcar track. That's where the helpful people at Bikechain come in, offering a free workshop tonight on wheel building and bike maintenance. Beginners, experts, students and non-students are all welcome.
