Events on Toronto's Radar for TUESDAY OCTOBER 13, 2009... lovingly handpicked from blogTO's events calendar.

CEREMONY | 2009 Heritage Toronto Awards and the Great Toronto Roast
This year marks the 175th anniversary of our great city, and Heritage Toronto is throwing a top-class bash to mark the occasion. Performers, luminaries, and past and present city officials including David Miller and former mayor David Crombie will all be in attendance at a ceremony to recognize individuals and organizations who have made outstanding contributions to Toronto. It's not all dreary old civic affairs though, and instead of the usual lecture there will be a Friar's Club style roast portion of the evening, in which the city we love will get royally teased.
The Carlu, 444 Yonge St., 7th Floor, $30

FILM | Free Screening of Drag Me To Hell
Thanksgiving's over which means it is now officially Halloween season, and no better way to kick it off than a horror flick that also happens to be a good film. Sam Raimi's known these days for directing the Spiderman franchise, but before that he made the classic Evil Dead movies. Drag Me To Hell picks up where those films left off, telling the tale of a loan officer who uncovers a terrible curse when she tries to evict a woman from her home. Some kind-hearted soul is putting it on for free tonight at the Bloor Cinema. First come, first served.
Bloor Cinema, 506 Bloor St. W., Free, 9:30 pm

MUSIC | The Gaslight Anthem at the Koolhaus
The Gaslight Anthem holds the unique distinction of being a punk band that's played with Bruce Springsteen. The New Jersey punk band rocketed to fame when their second full-length album landed them on the cover of Kerrang! Magazine, and a large European tour followed, culminating with them opening for the Boss in Hyde Park. The band brings their soulful punk sound to the Koolhaus tonight, which is fresh off its massive anniversary party this weekend. I hope some one hosed the place down. Murder by Death and Jesse Malin open.
Koolhaus, 132 Queen's Quay East, $21.50, 7 pm

PARTY | Tricks that Treat! Mysterion's Halloween Burlesque and Variety Hootenanny
Rock and roll from beyond the grave! A devilish hula-hoop expert! Spooky burlesque! All this and more comes to Mitzi's Sister tonight for an honest to goodness hootenanny. There will be more than 20 acts over the course of the evening, including Sketchy the Clown and magician and escapist Michael Telstarr. For only 5 dollars, that's pretty good bang for you buck.
Mitzi's Sister, 1554 Queen St. W., 9:30 pm

COMEDY | Bitch Salad Presents Black To School
Buddies in Bad Times Theatre hosts what is apparently the first ever all-black all-female comedy show in Canadian history. The starring comediennes include Cocoa Brown, Dana Alexander, Jamillah Ross, and Zabrina Chevannes. Beautiful and talented TV host Traci Melchior will be a special guest, and honourary sister and blogger Andrew Johnston will serve as emcee. Come watch the gals make laughs and history at the same time.
Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, 12 Alexander St., $12, 8:30 pm
