Latest poll shows Ford with 8-point lead over Smitherman

A new poll on Toronto's municipal election (take solace--it's probably one of the last ones) shows Rob Ford more than 8 percentage points ahead of George Smitherman.

The poll, which was conducted between October 13 and 21, surveyed 500 Torontonians and found that 43.9 per cent would vote for Rob Ford, compared to 35.6 for George Smitherman and 15 for Joe Pantalone.

The poll also indicates that Ford's support is growing among people born outside out Canada--interesting, considering his controversial comments on immigration. Of Toronto's immigrants who were surveyed, 51.7 per cent said they are voting for Ford, compared with 30.1 per cent for Smitherman and 11.1 per cent for Pantalone.

Quick--Smitherman needs another high-profile endorsement, preferably from someone born outside of Canada. Make it happen, strategy camp!
