Smitherman vows to lead "anybody-but-Ford" movement

Like a gallant knight with a shiny campaign button, George Smitherman has vowed to be the one to rescue Torontonians from Rob Ford.

Saying "this man must be stopped," Smitherman returned his sword to its holster before adding that voters should "coalesce around a candidate who can win," according to the Globe and Mail.

Smitherman will not, however, be asking other candidates to back out, saying the move would be "presumptuous." "They have to make those hard decisions for themselves," he said.

With the most recent poll showing Smitherman well behind Rob Ford, Smitherman is now appealing to Torontonians "whether they're motivated to stop Rob Ford" or motivated by his own "plans and vision for Toronto."
