Pat Burns dies (for a few minutes on Twitter)

Former Toronto Maple Leafs coach Pat Burns has usurped Gordon Lightfoot as the latest Canadian celebrity to have his death falsely reported on Twitter.

Around 11 a.m. this morning, CTV Ottawa and Vancouver reportedly tweeted that Burns, who has been battling cancer, had passed away, citing former NHLer and broadcaster Ray Ferraro as the source. The now-deleted tweets were picked up by other media and reported on TSN and other news websites.

Burns cleared up the rumour with TSN's Bob McKenzie. "I come to Quebec to spend some time with my family and they say I'm dead. I'm not dead, far f------ from it. They've had me dead since June."

Burns was supposedly grocery shopping when he was pronounced dead. He is having pork chops for dinner.
