Woman who faked cancer faces new, harsher fraud charge
Ashley Kirilow, the 23-year-old who allegedly faked having cancer to collect money, was slapped with a fourth, more serious charge during a court appearance today.
Kirilow, who shaved her head and plucked out her eyebrows and eyelashes to look like a cancer patient, created the charity "Change for a Cure," which, volunteers say, raised over $20,000. Kirilow says it was less than $5,000.
Kirilow was charged with three counts of fraud under $5,000, but has now been charged with an additional count of fraud over $5,000. She has requested to remain in custody at Vanier Centre for Women until her video court appearance on August 19. That's probably a good idea.
