Toronto office wins international design award

A Toronto law office is among the six winners of the international Shaw Contract Group's 2010 "Design Is..." award for creative and innovative spaces.

Heenan Blaikie's Bay Adelaide Centre office features different thematic colour palettes on each of its five floors. The chartreuse coat closet in the reception opens to a painted backdrop of judges' gowns and wigs.

The space was designed by Montreal outfit id+s Design Solutions. "We tried to make a space that was very approachable," designer Susie Silveri told the Globe and Mail. "There's whimsical aspects in the space that don't make it so serious and so pretentious."

Anyone thinking lickable wallpaper circa Willy Wonka, 1971?

The Toronto office was among 250 applicant spaces from 15 countries. Heenan Blaikie, along with Vaughan's Cara Operations, was judged to be among the six best by a panel of industry experts.
