Woodbine Beach water is among the best in the world

Like Lindsay Lohan after her 27th unfortunate crotch shot, Woodbine Beach can't seem to shake its dirty reputation.

However, according to the international Blue Flag Programme, Woodbine Beach is rated among the best in the world for swimming. Woodbine is one seven Canadian beaches to fill one of the top spots, according to the program.

"It's not easy to get a blue flag," Toronto Water spokesperson Cheryl San Juan told the Toronto Star. "These are world-class beaches."

A beach must be safe for swimming at least 80 per cent of the time to score a blue flag. Toronto's blue flag beaches are usually safe more than 90 per cent of the time.

Beaches have to have maps prominently displayed, lifeguards on duty, a beach code of conduct and water quality tested regularly to score a blue flag, among a few other conditions. E. coli levels for beaches can be found online each day, though based on samples taken a day or two before.

So, anyone up for a swim?
