An independent, civilian-led review of police actions at the G20 will take place after all. Although Toronto Police Services initially planned to conduct only an internal review, this morning Chairman Alok Mukherjee put forward a motion for an independent examination of police "oversight, governance and policy" as related to the G20 summit in Toronto.

The Post reports that tension was high at this morning's meeting, with members of the public scolding the police and demanding the right to play a role in the review.

Members of the TPS will hold another meeting in two weeks to hear public deputations and to set the terms of the review.

Mukherjee told the Globe, "This is a fairly complex issue we're trying to deal with," he said. "It was a federal event and it presents some interesting issues of oversight and governance. This is just the first step in that process."
