The thousands of people who rallied in front of police headquarters last night have had their voices heard.

Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair announced today there will be a review of "all aspects of Summit policing in Toronto."

"We feel it's extremely important, with an event of this unprecedented size and complexity, to ensure that we examine everything we did and how we did it," Blair said in a statement [pdf]. "This will ensure that our procedures are tested thoroughly, and that we identify any areas that may require further examination."

The review will be conducted by the service's Summit Management After Action Review Team (SMAART), which will assess "the strengths and weaknesses in the G20 plans, and their execution, to provide a model for improved best practices in future operations."

The announcement comes in response to several groups and individuals (except Mayor Miller) calling for inquiries into G20 police practices.

Amnesty International Canada has appealed to federal and provincial government to launch independent security reviews, and a Facebook group with more than 12,000 members is calling for a public inquiry into the G20.
