MONDAY SEPTEMBER 24 / BOB LOG III / HORSESHOE TAVERN / 368 QUEEN W / $11.50 - $13 / 19+

When it comes to straight-up batshit insanity, you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who compares to one-man slide guitar band Bob Log III. This Tucson, Arizona native performs in a human cannonball suit and a motorcycle helmet wired with a microphone, and you basically can't understand a single word he says. But that's ok, because his songs, which include the awesomely-titled "Shit On My Leg" and "Bump Pow! Bump Bump Bump Pow! Bump Pow! Bump Bump Bump, Baby! Bump Pow! Bump Bump Bump Pow! Bump Pow! Bump Bump Bump" are still a hell of a lot of fun to listen to. This one's for those of you out there who are looking for something a little different.

TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 25 / MUTEMATH / THE PHOENIX / 410 SHERBOURNE / $33.75 / 19+

One of the best days of music I've ever been a part of was day two of the 2009 Virgin Music Festival. It was chock-full of incredible bands and artists, and one of the highlights of the day was New Orleans alt-rock quartet Mutemath. I hadn't heard of them prior to seeing them live, but I came away a huge fan. Simply put, if you enjoy alt-rock with a bit of an electronic twist, then you'll dig these guys. They've kinda flown under the radar since their formation in 2003, but I expect big things from the in the future. If you needed a little more convincing to check out this show, Civil Twilight will open.

WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 26 / GRIZZLY BEAR / MASSEY HALL / 178 VICTORIA / $29.50 - $42.50 / ALL AGES

When no less than Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood says you're his favourite band, you know you must be doing something right. And indeed, Brooklyn's Grizzly Bear has done practically everything right since they burst onto the scene in 2002. The band is fresh off the release of their latest album, Shields, their first album since 2009's universally acclaimed Veckatimest. This is definitely one of those can't-miss shows, and you can bet that Massey Hall is going to be absolutely rammed.

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 28 / NEW COUNTRY REHAB / HUGH'S ROOM / 2261 DUNDAS W / $18 - $20 / ALL AGES

By now, regular readers of this blog will know that I'm a big fan of alt-country, and a firm supporter of local talent. So, when a Toronto-based alt-country band has a show coming up, I've got to include it. New Country Rehab burst onto the scene in 2010, and released their self-titled debut album in 2011. It garnered a fair bit of critical acclaim, and standout tracks like "Angel of Death" showed the music world that these guys are playing for keeps.

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 29 / DJANGO DJANGO / WRONGBAR / 1279 QUEEN W / $14.50 / 19+

Don't get excited: Django Django has nothing to do with the upcoming Tarantino flick Django Unchained. Nor are they named after Belgian jazz legend Django Reinhardt. What they are, though, is a very exciting psych-rock quartet that has made quite a mark off the strength of their self-titled debut album. It's a very experimental sound that alternates between heavy and soft, and it really is quite awesome to listen to. Wrongbar is the perfect venue for an act like this.
