Hot Ticket: Mogwai, Foster the People, Tokyo Police Club, Civil Twilight, These United States, Gdansk, Rob Moir, Japandroids

Live music picks for MONDAY JUNE 18 through SATURDAY JUNE 23, 2012.

MONDAY JUNE 18 / MOGWAI / THE PHOENIX / 410 SHERBOURNE / $37 / 19+

There are very few things in life that are guaranteed, but one thing you can always count on is Mogwai putting on a hell of a show. Since their formation in 1995, they've arguably been one of the most consistent bands in all of music. Their post-rock, instrumental anthems are mind-blowing, and seeing them live is something that any music fan worth their salt needs to experience.

TUESDAY JUNE 19 / FOSTER THE PEOPLE / DOWNSVIEW PARK / 35 CARL HALL RD / $50.45 / ALL AGES

Indie-pop darlings Foster the People experienced their coming out party over the last year. Some would argue that they've been overexposed (and indeed, their singles, notably "Pumped Up Kicks," have been played to death on the radio), but there's no denying the fact that they're an endlessly talented group. Hopefully, they'll prove to be more than a one-album wonder. Newmarket legends Tokyo Police Club will offer support.

WEDNESDAY JUNE 20 / CIVIL TWILIGHT / THE GARRISON / 1197 DUNDAS W / $18.25 / 19+

If you're only able to check out one concert this week, I highly recommend that you make it this one. Cape Town, South Africa's Civil Twilight released their sophomore album Holy Weather back in March, and it further cemented their status as one of the most talented groups in indie rock. They've had one bonafide monster single ("Letters From The Sky"), and it's safe to say that it will be the first of many. The Garrison is the perfect venue for such a show. You don't want to miss this one.

FRIDAY JUNE 22 / THESE UNITED STATES / THE GARRISON / 1197 DUNDAS W / $10.50 - $12 / 19+

It's a simply fantastic week for music at The Garrison. These United States are a band who combine elements from several genres into their music, including folk, alt-country, garage rock, and psychedelic rock. The result is an eclectic catalogue of southern-tinged tunes, with no two songs sounding the same. Like the Civil Twilight show two nights before, this one comes highly recommended. Gdansk and Rob Moir will open.

SATURDAY JUNE 23 / JAPANDROIDS / LEE'S PALACE / 529 BLOOR W / $18.75 / 19+

I first saw Japandroids at Sneaky Dee's, and since then, I can easily call them one of the best live acts I've ever seen. They recently released their sophomore album Celebration Rock, and they've even been getting some play on 102.1 The Edge. It's safe to say that they're poised to enjoy some great success, and rightfully so.
