Dan Mangan

Hot Ticket: The Black Crowes, Dan Mangan, Matt & Kim, The Vaselines, The Matadors, The Dandy Warhols, Atreyu & more

Live music picks for WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 27 through TUESDAY NOVEMBER 2, 2010.

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 27 / THE BLACK CROWES / MASSEY HALL / 178 VICTORIA ST / $54.50+ / ALL AGES
A brief hiatus in the early to mid 2000s is the only hiccup in the lengthy career of The Black Crowes, who will continue rocking and rolling tonight at Massey Hall. If you have never seen The Black Crowes before, do yourself a favour and check out one of the best jam bands still touring.

THURSDAY OCTOBER 28 / DAN MANGAN / TRINITY ST. PAULS / 427 BLOOR ST W / $22.50 / ALL AGES
The Polaris nominated singer-songwriter, and Vancouver native, Dan Mangan plays the Trinity St. Pauls Centre on Thursday night, continuing his relentless touring in support of the 2009 LP Nice, Nice, Very Nice. Mangan will be joined by Harbourcoats (Bry Webb of Constantines) and fellow VanCity folk rocker The Crackling.

FRIDAY OCTOBER 29 / MATT & KIM / PHOENIX / 410 SHERBOURNE ST / $17.50 / 19+
Brooklyn, New York's Matt & Kim are set to get people dancing at the Phoenix on Friday when the duo brings their catchy "dance punk" to Toronto. It's a perfect opportunity to catch Matt & Kim before the release of their new album Sidewalks, which is due out on November 2.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 30 / THE VASELINES / HORSESHOE TAVERN / 368 QUEEN ST W / $24.50 / 19+
This past September, twenty years in the making, the second album by Glasgow's, The Vaselines hit shelves. Sex With An X reunites founding members Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee, who gained notoriety after Seattle's most famous band, Nirvana, covered several of their tracks on various albums. The Vaselines take over the Horseshoe Tavern this Saturday.

SUNDAY OCTOBER 31 / THE MATADORS / HARD LUCK BAR / 812 DUNDAS ST W / $10
Get your costumes ready and head over to the Hard Luck Bar to catch the originators of horrorbilly, The Matadors, as they promise to show the crowd what a "real rock and roll show looks like". $8 with a costume, $10 without, and opening up the night will be Toronto punk rockers The Unbelievers.

MONDAY NOVEMBER 1 / THE DANDY WARHOLS / PHOENIX / 410 SHERBOURNE ST / $30 / 19+
It's been nearly a decade since I've personally seen Portland, Oregon's The Dandy Warhols play live, but the band continues strong after the release of their greatest hits album, The Capitol Years 1995-2007, this past summer. Catch them live at the Phoenix on Monday.

TUESDAY NOVEMBER 2 / ATREYU / PHOENIX / 410 SHERBOURNE ST / $25.50 / 19+
The OC's (don't call it that) Atreyu plays the Phoenix on Tuesday, headlining a night of headbanging metalcore alongside Phoenix, Arizona's Blessthefall, Michigan's Chiodos, and Architects, who come all the way from Brighton, U.K.
