Live music picks for WEDNESDAY AUGUST 25 through TUESDAY AUGUST 31, 2010.

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 25 / RICH AUCOIN EP RELEASE PARTY / CROWN & TIGER / 414 COLLEGE ST / 19+
Halifax native Rich Aucoin celebrates the release of his new EP Public Publication with a party at The Crown & Tiger on College, where he'll be joined by a pair of Montreal bands: The Pop Winds and Grimes. Public Publication was recorded in countless cities and towns spanning from Victoria, BC to Saint John's, NL and features numerous contributors from the Canadian music scene.

THURSDAY AUGUST 26 / LULLABYE ARKESTRA / THE GARRISON / 1197 DUNDAS ST W / $10 / 19+
On Thursday night The Garrison plays host to a hometown Lullabye Arkestra show with support from Cambridge duo Hot Kid and local metal act TITAN, who will be heading to the studio shortly to record their much anticipated debut full-length album, meaning that this is going to be their last Toronto show "for some time." In the meantime, you can download a three-song sampler of TITAN tracks via mediafire.

FRIDAY AUGUST 27 - SUNDAY AUGUST 29 / THE STILLS, LILY FROST, THE MIDWAY STATE & PAPER LIONS / DISTILLERY HISTORIC DISTRICT / 55 MILL ST / FREE / ALL AGES
As the season for outdoor concerts comes to a close, Lexus has put together a weekend concert series in The Distillery district, kicking off at 7pm on Friday night with a performance from Montreal's The Stills. Saturday afternoon features sets from Lily Frost at noon and The Midway State at 5pm, and on Sunday PEI folk rockers Paper Lions will close out the mini-festival with a 3pm set.

SATURDAY AUGUST 28 / LOU BARLOW with WYE OAK / HORSESHOE TAVERN / 368 QUEEN ST W / $13.50 / 19+
The prolific Lou Barlow (of Sebadoh, Dinosaur Jr and Folk Implosion) is currently on the road with his backing band The Missingmen in support of their forthcoming effort Sentridoh III, which offers new tracks as well as beefed up reworks of songs from Lou's 2009 solo effort Goodnight Unknown. Baltimore indie folk duo Wye Oak and local act The Caraways will open for Barlow at the Horseshoe on Saturday night.

Criminal Records announced yesterday that they'll be hosting Lou Barlow for an in-store session on Saturday evening before his gig at the Shoe, beginning at 7pm sharp.

SATURDAY AUGUST 28 - MONDAY AUGUST 30 / APHASIA, MATZKA & KOU CHOU CHING / HARBOURFRONT CENTRE, DUFFY'S TAVERN & LEE'S PALACE / FREE
Leg one of the 2010 "Indie Taiwan Tour" features three groups performing three shows in three days, at three different venues across the city - starting with the Harbourfront Centre on Saturday evening, followed by a gig at Duffy's Tavern on Sunday night and closing with a show at Lee's Palace on Monday. This means you have three chances to check out the first wave of the impending Taiwanese invasion, featuring reggae-rock experimentalists Matzka, hip-hop collective Kou Chou Ching, and Taiwan's answer to Explosions in The Sky: instrumental post-rock quartet Aphasia. For those under the legal drinking age, you're restricted to attending the Harbourfront show only, as both Duffy's and Lee's enforce a strict 19+ policy.

MONDAY AUGUST 30 / RA RA RIOT / MOD CLUB / 722 COLLEGE ST / FREE* / 19+
Syracuse, NY rockers Ra Ra Riot's sophomore release hit shelves earlier this week, and to celebrate they'll play a free gig at The Mod Club on Monday night. Entry is guaranteed by purchasing a copy of The Orchard from GalleryAC.com, Rotate This, Soundscapes, Criminal Records or Sonic Boom. The only other way to get in is to win tickets by emailing contest[at]arts-crafts[dot]ca.

TUESDAY AUGUST 31 / SCISSOR SISTERS / SOUND ACADEMY / 11 POLSON ST / $35 / ALL AGES
Head to the Sound Academy on Tuesday night to catch what's sure to be an upbeat, synth-filled evening with glam rock/disco lovers Scissor Sisters, who will be accompanied by their regular tour DJ Sammy Jo.
