Beats, Breaks and Culture Festival 2008

This weekend Beats, Breaks & Culture will celebrate its fifth year anniversary, bringing some of the best new music and culture to the Harbourfront Centre.

This year in particular the line up is quite impressive, with some of the best national and international talent such as Ladytron and Crystal Castles on the bill.

And did I mention that admission is FREE?

Usually for Beats, Breaks & Culture weekend I pretty much camp at Harbourfront. There is something about the festival (and most of the World Routes Series) that makes it one of my favourite music events of the year. Enjoying the lake breeze while listening to great music for free, watching the sunset to your favourite tunes played live just a few meters from you, eating corn on the stick or some jerk chicken with a beer - it just doesn't get any better.

I'm mostly excited about Saturday's locals lineup: Woodhands, Thunderheist and Crystal Castles at the Sirius Satellite Radio Stage. It's great too see so much talent coming out from our very own hometown Toronto!

But Beats, Breaks & Culture is not only about the big name acts though. Make sure to check all the other side events that are going on like the Graffiti Competition hosted by Manifesto at the Ann Tindal Lawn, or the DJ-centric events such as 7th Heaven, which is one of my favorite dance parties in Toronto, at the Brigantine Room. You can even get a cool haircut for free, courtesy of Marca College.

Here is a schedule with my personal highlights. For a full schedule please visit the Beats, Breaks & Culture official site.
