Some of Toronto's Finest Remix Radiohead

Radiohead have gone and done something really cool again. When they released their latest single for "Nude" (a delicate and emotional highlight of In Rainbows), they decided to divide the song into five separate audio "stems" for remixing and are selling them on iTunes.

Remixers are invited to reinterpret the song in any way and upload their creations to an impressively designed remix page where Radiohead fans can easily listen to them and vote for their favourites.

While cruising through the 1299 remixes posted so far on the site, I came across three impressive submissions from Toronto artists.

Holy Fuck are currently enjoying a massive lead in fan voting with their percussive remix. It sounds like they added some of their lo-fi effects to Thom Yorke's vocals and some of the other stems, in addition to adding their own live drumming in parts.

Ohad Benchetrit, Justin Small, and Charles Spearin from Do Make Say Think add their thick indie guitar layers and ambient drones to the song. They also throw in some beautiful brass chords, and a little harmony under Thom's vocals. I really like the flange effect on the drums near the beginning of the song.

Classically trained pianist Todor Kobakov is a current member of Small Sins and has toured as part of Emily Haines' Soft Skeleton band. He really shows his conducting chops here by leading the Tokai String Quartet through a breathtaking live rendition of "Nude" under Thom's vocals. I could see this being Jonny Greenwood's favourite remix, in light of his recent film scoring work.
