Morning Brew: Ford's governance called into question after transit defeat, wildcat strike delays flights at Pearson, and the Zoo welcomes a new lemur
With his stinging transit defeat yesterday, his support on council waning, as well as ongoing labour disputes, many are now left wonderinghow Rob Ford will continue to govern for the remaining two plus years left on his mandate. "I don't think it looks good for the future of this administration. It simply doesn't," Councillor Jaye Robinson, part of the mayor's executive who supported subways, said after yesterday's vote.
By now you've heard of Rob Ford's mini-meltdown during yesterday's debate when he incessantly repeated "subways subways subways" but have you actually listened to it? Here you go.
If you or someone you know has a flight this morning at Pearson, don't be surprised if there's a delay. Air Canada ground crews and baggage handlers staged a wildcat strike late last night causing arrival and departure delays. The Labour Minister says she won't intervene this time, calling the dispute an internal one for the airline.
The zoo is expanding its family once again. Lily the lemur gave birth earlier this month but zoo keepers haven't been able to examine the offspring to see if it's a boy or a girl. Also in question: the little lemur's father. Seems that lemurs are known to have multiple mates, so the father could either be Larry or Lionel. Somebody call Maury; we need a pat test.
