Morning Brew: Ford down to his last strike in transit battle, TFC gears up for big game, SPUD launches Ford graffiti gallery, and Steve's Music loses its founder
With Rob Ford taking another one on the chin with city council voting in favour of Karen Stintz's motion rather than the Ford-supported motion from councillor Michael Thompson, the Star's Royson James says the mayor is down to his last strike when it comes to the transit battle. With the upcoming Sheppard subway vote on March 21, James says the best the mayor can hope for is a vote that extends the Sheppard subway two stops to Victoria Park, which at this point seems doubtful.
The TFC is gearing up for its biggest game of all time tomorrow night, when they face off against the Los Angeles Galaxy and someone called David Beckham in front of 50,000 people at the Rogers Centre. The tournament is the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League quarter-finals. Why do I get the feeling there will be a lot more women in the crowd?
The Grid interviews SPUD, the local graffiti artist who likes to spray paint Rob Ford's mug across the city. Now the artist is launching a gallery show called Censored at the Don't Tell Mama Gallery, which showcases work lampooning the mayor. I'm still torn about what's more sketchy: the fact SPUD wore a Luchador wrestling mask to protect his anonymity during the interview or the fact they met in a basement in Parkdale to conduct it.
And it turns out that you can't get away without paying for your limo ride even if you are rich and sexy and called a Pussycat Doll. Chrystina Sayers, the newest Doll, finally paid the outstanding $2000 tab to her Toronto limo driver yesterday after he took her around the city last month.
