Morning Brew: McGuinty getting impatient with Toronto's transit woes, Mammoliti now appealing his compliance audit, Emery Village rescinds support of Finch LRT, Gustavsson flubs one in Leafs OT loss
Dalton McGuinty is just as impatient as the rest of us when it comes to putting a firm transit plan into place â to LRT at grade or to head underground â and wants Toronto to get its act together. "I think the time for talk is coming to an end," he said. "I think the time has come for us to build public transit in a way that serves the people of Toronto."
Too bad we no longer have a TTC General Manager to help guide the process (more on that later today).
Well, this isn't very surprising. Despite saying he wouldn't appeal his campaign compliance audit, councillor Giorgio Mammoliti is now singing a different tune. Mammoliti apparently filed an appeal two weeks ago after "we found out information that raises eyebrows."
In more Mams news, the Emery Village BIA has "rescinded" support of LRT in on Finch West, despite having endorsed the plan when it was first proposed under the Miller administration. An injunction could lead to significant delays, making a bad situation for Finch bus riders even worse. Please tell me that when the next election comes around, people think long and hard about whether or not their local councillor has their best interestes in mind.
Hey, talking about wasting money, the City's auditor general reports that Toronto lost almost a million bucks to employee misuse of money last year (a.k.a. fraud). Most of that sum relates to one agency, but there's lots of smaller instances that let you know that somehow, someway, there's still gravy at city hall.
As a Leafs fan you might want the team to orchestrate a trade for Rick Nash, but as the last few games have shown that what we might need the most is help at the goaltending position. After some big saves in the third period to help the team get a point, Jonas Gustavsson let in a true stinker to lose the game in OT. Better be working those phones, Brian.
Feeling bummed about the Leafs? Good thing baseball is around the corner! And to help us get pumped for the upcoming season, Canadian hip-hop artist Buck 65 has penned an anthem inspired by slugger Jose Bautista. Naturally, it's called "Joey Bats."
