Looks like there's going to be a transit showdown on city council's floor. Responding to the dismissal of TTC chief manager, Gary Webster, the mayor's opponents on city council are building a coalition and studying by-laws in attempt to control the agenda, which could include an attempt of a transit commission coup. Critics of Rob Ford's plan must get 30 votes to control the agenda.

On the flip side, here's the mayor himself explaining his vision, once again, this time via an op-ed piece for the Globe and Mail. The whole article is, well, rather polished. Someone got some help with his homework. Oh, and he mentions the possibility of a parking levy for the first time. Apparently it's trickier to fund subways than initially imagined.

We might as well get to know the new guy. The National Post interviews the TTC's acting chief general manager, Andy Byford, who apparently hasn't decided whether he supports Rob Ford's underground transit vision or the LRT-based plan endorsed by council. Byford, who is gunning to become the chief general manager on a permanent basis, was initially recruited by Gary Webster in the first place, so that's a bit awkward.

Are there too many cafes and coffee houses in Toronto? Probably. In what is considered the third wave of shops for Toronto by coffee know-it-alls, 100 independently-owned cafes have opened in the city since 2008, often within a stone's throw away from each other. So how do they stay in business? Well, the competition actually helps.

Our city's librarians are considering going on strike, so if you love librarians (everyone has a favourite), then show your support for them and sign their Love a Librarian petition.

Although not official yet, it looks like Rob and Doug Ford are set to takeover Josh Matlow's Sunday radio show with one of their own. Be prepared for a hell of a lot of lobbying for subways, but also some gaffe-fueled entertainment. More on this later.
