Looks like Toronto's councillors know Margaret Atwood's wrath (or tweets) hath no fury like a bibliophile scorned. After Monday's budget committee voted to cut the library budget, now members of Rob Ford's inner circle, including Councillor Michelle Berardinetti, are working to save the reduction of library hours. Berardinetti will introduce a bill tomorrow that proposes libraries still cut an additional ten per cent from their budget, with the exception that no hours be cut. The cash has to come from somewhere, though, doesn't it?

Construction on the island airport tunnel is starting up next month. Passengers will enter the 240-metre-long tunnel linking downtown Toronto to Billy Bishop islands airport through a pavilion on the city's side. The tunnel will be both above and underground (if that makes any sense). Construction is expected to take two years, so enjoy every four minutes of that ridiculously short ferry ride in the meantime.

Rob and Doug Ford are launching a public effort to lose weight and are asking the city to join them in their efforts as well as solicit pledges for charity. Doug Ford announced the resolution on NewsTalk 1010 yesterday. The campaign will involve City Hall weigh-ins and Ford believes public pressure will keep him and his brother on track with their new exercise and diet regime. He said, "When you tell three million people that you're gonna lose weight, you sure better lose weight." No jokes here, folks. I endorse a healthy lifestyle.

Okay, so we know that the Real Jerk is closing (sad face) but did you know that varied celebrities from Wesley Snipes to Russell Crowe to N'SYNC have visited the place? And that the restaurant would host dance parties and 'Irie-okee' (a Caribbean form of karaoke) nights too?

Yes, a "good old fashioned" rap battle has erupted over good old fashioned Twitter with Common calling rapper Drake "Canada Dry." Well, it's definitely punny, I'll give Common that. But I bet Biggie and 2Pac are shaking their heads in disgust right now. Twitter and beverage comparisons, guys? Really?

Here's some good news for what is surely the city's ugliest university campus. York U has been named the "greenest" university in Canada. It must be all that concrete.
