Morning Brew: Police respond to domestic disputes at Mayor Ford's Etobicoke home, Bixi to go all winter-long, more races this spring than ever, Metro Theatre still for sale, Leafs lose to Canes
The Star has released some interesting info about 911 calls involving the mayor - and no, they don't have to do with his infamous emergency call after his "This Hour has 22 Minutes" debacle. However, the police were called again to Rob Ford's house 15 hours after the incident on a separate domestic call. Then this week, police were called to Ford's home early Christmas morning after his mother-in-law had called to report the mayor had been drinking and was taking his children to Florida against their mother's wishes. Apparently 911 calls are common to the Ford household, but exactly how many calls is unknown. An interview request from the Star to Ford's office went unanswered - not surprisingly.
Get ready to bundle up, Bixi bike riders, because, for the first time in any Canadian city, the bike-share system is going to run here all winter-long. And if braking on ice and going through sleet and snow doesn't seem all that appealing, the company is planning on rewarding the rider who bikes the farthest in the cold with a free three-year membership- how's that for incentive? And don't worry: the bikes are made of aluminum, so they won't rust due to contact with salted roads.
So much for moving foot races to parks. Next spring, the city will host more races than ever with two scheduled between April 22 and May 13 and a marathon. On Thursday, Mike Williams, general manager of economic development and culture at City of Toronto, said he wasn't sure if the city had given the races permits already or approved them just on principle.
