One day it's glass falling, then it's concrete, and now it's glass again. What's going on with Toronto's buildings? Just one day after concrete was reported falling from a Ryerson University building, glass fell from a condo balcony near Bay and Grosvenor Streets, injuring a woman. Apparently this isn't the first time a glass balcony from that particular condo shattered, and the company who installed them has since gone out of business, which isn't surprising.

A deer hit on Sunday in the High Park area suffered needlessly for almost four hours because there weren't any veterinarians available. Animal support groups say the incident is indicative of lack of funds for wildlife care and rehab in the city. Police and animal control wanted the deer to be euthanized humanely, but due to this alleged vet shortage, police ended up shooting the deer.

How 'tops' do you feel when you have to eat lunch in the school washroom? That's the debate surrounding a prestigious program, the Talented Offerings of Programs in the Sciences (TOPS), at an overcrowded high school in a high-needs community. Marc Garneau Collegiate is about 400 students above capacity because of the program and though some would like it to be removed to reduce crowding, the Toronto District School Board says the program is not going anywhere.

Look out lane hogs, councillor Josh Matlow is gunning for you. Matlow wants those motorists who stop in live lanes during rush hour to pay the price for getting that unnecessary cup of coffee or picking up dry cleaning. Matlow suggests increasing the fines to $500 to deter such behaviour.

You'd think the Sun would be into this type of thing. Anyway. Apparently, a Sue-Ann Levy was walking by the Yorkville fire station on Saturday night and noticed a group of firefighters taking pictures with some women around the fire truck. Based on this sight, she questions whether or not there are too many firefighters with too little to do, and suggests that maybe they shouldn't be immune to the 10 per cent cut to the Fire Services operating budget. Perhaps this is true, but certainly not on account of the fact that Levy stumbled upon them fooling around at the firehouse (newsflash: firefighters do a lot of sitting around waiting to be called to fight fires).
