Aha! The computer got it wrong! That's probably what most people were saying, rather gleefully, after watching yesterday's "Jeopardy!" Watson, the latest machine to take on a human in a mental showdown, seemed at first to dominate the game, answering correctly every question it fielded--until the last round. The category was "U.S. Cities," and the clue provided: "Its largest airport is named for a WWII hero. Its second largest for a WWII battle." Watson's answer? Toronto. The correct answer: Chicago. The audience gasped at the obvious error. Watson dropped his head in shame. Okay, that last part isn't true because he's not really capable of that!

I guess with yesterday's news about the proposed super high condos going in at King and Spadina, people have buildings and "how high is too high?" on the brain. Peter Kuitenbrouwer over at the National Post takes a look at Dundas West and Manning Avenue, which up until recently had been left alone from the city's condo craze. Now the owners of the long-standing Maple Leaf Lumber have applied to the City of Toronto to rezone the site, knock down the venerable building supply yard and put up a 98-unit, eight-storey condo tower, with eight four-storey townhouses on the back end where the lumber warehouse now stands. The current zoning permits builders to go up 16 metres. A preliminary report on the rezoning comes to Toronto and East York Community Council on Wednesday.

It looks like the gay-straight alliance policy issue over at the Halton Catholic school board isn't over. On paper its ban on gay-straight alliances is lifted, but a new draft inclusion policy by the Halton Catholic District School Board doesn't allow them either. Instead, the policy directs students to form groups called SIDE (safety, inclusivity, diversity, equity) spaces, which will be run by staff trained in the guidelines developed by the Institute for Catholic Education "to assist students of same-sex orientation."

If you're travelling soon, you may be held up at the airport. 400 baggage handlers for several international airlines at Pearson International Airport and Montreal's Trudeau and Mirabel airports are to go on strike. Handlex workers went on strike Tuesday night after talks broke down between the Teamsters union and management.The workers load and unload baggage for Air Transat, Air France, British Airways and Swissair. Handlex is a subsidiary of Air Transat.
