Morning Brew: TTC calls for public feedback on streetcar facility, alleged gun threat in under-13 soccer league, close but no cigar for Blue Jay's Brandon Morrow, more on bed bugs, good and bad reading

The TTC is calling on the public for feedback on the design proposals for a streetcar facility to be built near Ashbridge's Bay (yes, that should have an apostrophe). Along with hosting an open house yesterday afternoon (another one is scheduled for Tuesday between 4 and 8 p.m.), those interested can view the proposals and provide comment online. Feedback must be submitted by August 23, at which time an independent panel of jurors will review the various submissions.

Soccer fans are perhaps the most passionate in all of sports, which can lead to some pretty maniacal behaviour. Case in point: a parent of a player on the North Scarborough Soccer Club's under-13 team (the Bulldogs) allegedly threatened an assistant referee with a gun after a controversial 1-0 loss to the Aurora Stingers. While the team denies that such an incident took place -- calling it "propaganda" -- the league and parents are obviously quite concerned. Since the report of the altercation back on July 12, the York Region Soccer Association has refused to send officials to ref Bulldogs games.

The Blue Jays Brandon Morrow came heartbreakingly close to a no-hitter yesterday, taking his hit-free record and 17 strikeouts into the ninth inning before Tampa Bay's Evan Longoria singled into the hole between first and second base. Shitty. Instead of basking in the glory of such a rare accomplishment -- Dave Stieb is the only Toronto pitcher to have had one -- he'll likely be haunted by what might have been.

Bed bugs are back in the news, as cities like Toronto and New York face widespread infestations. For background FAQs, the Post offers this informative little read. Particularly interesting is Dr. Michael Potter's contention that pesticide bans have led to the increase in these blood-sucking nuisances.

In Brief:

Commuters who use Union Station may face disruptions as as maintenance staff have set a 12:01 strike deadline for Tuesday morning.

New curriculum for elementary students will highlight the merits of healthy eating, but scrap sex-ed.

Joe Fiorito tries to use as many paragraph breaks as possible in this article about the Toronto Community Housing Corporation and the LeSage report.

And perhaps to compensate for the above article, the Star rounds up what some of Toronto's best and brightest are reading.
