What's happening in the GTA (and sometimes beyond):

Canada won big last night in Vancouver, and here in Toronto it was a giant, spontaneous, emotional party in the streets. Check out our extensive collection of reader photos and video that capture the magic moment and the pride and happiness on the face of Canadians.

Speaking of hockey and history and Toronto... the architects who are working on converting Maple Leaf Gardens into a Ryerson University athletics facility and Loblaw grocery store have hinted at some of the subtleties that will keep visual cues and memories of the old area intact.

329 unionized workers at Woodbine race track, who are among the lowest paid at the facility, have been locked out suddenly by their employer. The union says that they didn't even have time to put the final contract offer that was presented to them to a vote.

Duke's Cycle, the family-run bike shop that burned down in that horrific Queen West fire in early 2008, will be rebuilding and returning to the location in time to celebrate 100 years of serving Toronto.

Matt Galloway is back from Vancouver and ready to take over the helm at CBC's Metro Morning. It'll be interesting to see how he adds his own flavour to the morning show and how the evening commute will do in his absence.

Toronto planners of the upcoming 2015 Pan Am games are looking to Vancouver for tips, tricks, and tactics to make the games run smoothly and securely. At least we won't have to worry about a lack of snow and abundance of fog hampering the competitions... I hope!
