This Week in Rep Cinema features second run and classic film selections from cinemas such as the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema, The Fox, The Revue, The Royal, Toronto Underground Cinema, the Projection Booth, TIFF Bell Lightbox, and more.

Festival frenzy continues at a fever pitch this week, as the Inside Out LGBT Film Festival begins on Thursday (look for our preview in a few days) and an assortment of other festivals are coming around the bend. On the smaller-side, the Viscera Film Festival will be hosted at the Projection Booth this Tuesday, the Revue begins a new film series, and the Toronto Underground Cinema turns two years old.

MONDAY MAY 14 / THE THIRD MAN / TIFF BELL LIGHTBOX / 7PM
Screening as part of the Books in Film series, publisher Louise Dennys takes a look at Carol Reed's masterpiece The Third Man, a story of betrayal and mystery. The screening will be introduced and discussed by Dennys, head of Knopf Canada, Random House Canada and Vintage Canada, who may be able to offer some insight into the longevity of the film and its pulp fiction roots. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the cinema. Part lecture-series, part film-event, you'll leave feeling entertained and a touch smarter.

TUESDAY MAY 15 / STAINED / PROJECTION BOOTH / 6PM
On Tuesday, the Projection Booth plays host to the Viscera Film Festival, a traveling festival dedicated to featuring horror films helmed by female filmmakers. First up at 6pm is Stained, a dark film about a lonely woman who finds herself seduced and trapped into an emotionally abusive relationship with a suspicious ex-lover and the sister who drives across the country to try to save her. Tickets to Stained are $10 but if you pay $15 you can also view all the Viscera short films at 8pm, a solid deal.

THURSDAY MAY 17 / COMEDY REVUE: COMEDIAN / REVUE CINEMA / 7PM
The Revue kicks off a new three-part film series focusing on the business of comedy. Hosted by Yuk Yuk's founder Mark Breslin, the series aims to inform as well as amuse, featuring works by some of the biggest names on the comedy circuit. First film up is 2002's Comedian, a doc that follows the career and work of of big name act Jerry Seinfeld and the struggles of newcomer Orny Adams. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the cinema.

FRIDAY MAY 18 / THE FIFTH ELEMENT / TORONTO UNDERGROUND CINEMA / 9:15 PM
It may be hard to believe, but the little rep-cinema-that-could turns two this week, and to celebrate, the management team is opening the doors for two free screenings. The first up is Clue, the first film ever screened at the cinema and the second is a personal favourite, Luc Besson's The Fifth Element. Nothing could be better this long-weekend Friday than a surrealistic sci-fi comedy dystopia and all for the low cost of free. Happy Birthday Toronto Underground!

SATURDAY MAY 19TH / TOUCHING THE VOID / BLOOR HOT DOCS CINEMA / 3:30PM
It's tough to do re-creation sequences in documentary film, especially in relation to disaster films and the fine line between a successful re-enactment and the 1993 film, Alive. That being said, Touching the Void is a real nail-biter of a film about two mountaineers who, in their attempt to climb the Suila Grande range in Peru, face treacherous conditions on their way back down. Screening as part of Essential Docs classic documentaries on Saturdays, this is a 'brought-back-for-one-time-only' sort of deal. Tickets are $11 and can be purchased at the cinema.
