From environmental activism, to poetic historicism, cynical science-fiction, campy throw-backs and cheerful abandon, this has got to be the most unconnected selection of films you'll ever see. TUESDAY MAY 29 / NINE MUSES / ROYAL CINEMA / 7PM
Nine Muses, the opening night film from the Images Film Festival is back for one night only at the Royal Cinema. Filmmaker John Akomfrah explores the movement patterns of African and Caribbean migrants in the 50's and 60's but uses readings from authors like Homer, Emily Dickinson, William Shakespeare and T.S. Eliot to describe the meaning and idea behind migration. A truly unique piece that definitely set the tone for this years 25th anniversary of the festival. WEDNESDAY MAY 30 / GHOSTS WITH SHIT JOBS / ROYAL CINEMA / 7PM
It's 2040 in Toronto, all worthwhile jobs have moved to the East, China is the world's superpower and Canadians live in poverty and work menial jobs that are technically illegal to make ends meet. From human spam agents, responsible for peppering conversations with company names, to digital janitors who blur corporate logos for the internet or eveb baby makers who make 'refurbished' genetically altered babies. Weird stuff! One screening only, tickets are $10 and can be purchased online.

THURSDAY MAY 31 / LAST CALL AT THE OASIS / BLOOR HOT DOCS CINEMA / 6:30PM
The filmmakers behind Last Call at the Oasis, have fostered massive awareness of environmental issues with their films, such as highlighting the global warming crisis with Al Gore in An Inconvenient Truth and championed ethical and safer food inspection/regulation laws in Food Inc. Now their focus shifts to another glaring danger: the pollution and other problems facing the world's water supply. The film runs from May 27th to June 14th and tickets are $11.

SATURDAY JUNE 2 / STREET FIGHTER / PROJECTION BOOTH / 9PM
The east-end Projection Booth flexes its charitable muscles this weekend with a Street Fighter Costume party and screening for the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation. Dress up as your favourite character, practice your best Hadouken and prepare to watch Raul Julia, Jean-Claude Van Damme and pop-star Kylie Minogue in the cheesy 1994 live-action adaptation. There will also be prizes for the best costume and an XBOX competition.Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online.

SUNDAY JUNE 3 / WSFF OUTDOOR SCREENINGS / DUFFERIN GROVE PARK / 12PM & 9PM
In advance of the actual launch for the CFC's Worldwide Short Film Festival, spend the afternoon lounging at Dufferin Grove Park with Shorts for Shorties, a selection of short films appropriate for big kids and small including a short about The Gruffalo! Or venture to the park after dark for Christmas in June, a selection of shorts set during the winter holidays, followed by a dance party. Sounds like a great way to ring in the new month. Admission to both events is free.
