This Week in Film: February 23, 2007

Oscar-nominated film Days of Glory opens this weeek.

It's Oscar weekend, but if you want to slip into the theater for a quickie before the big show then you might want to check out a nominated film while you're at it, preferably one you haven't seen yet. Opening this weekend is Algerian contender Days of Glory, which tells the WWII story of four African soldiers not only getting themselves into deep Nazi hell but must also put up with racial discrimination from their French superiors. Also opening is Joel "Batman-Nipples" Schumacher's The Number 23, which stars a scary looking Jim Carrey solving some horrific math problems but without the aid of a calculator (I hope he remembers BEDMAS).

Opening this Week:

Days of Glory *
The Number 23
Iraq in Fragments *
The Astronaut Farmer
Reno 911: Miami
Matthew Barney: No Restraint *

(* = Recommended)

On the Radar:

Deepa Mehta wants to make film about her Oscar excitement (we wish her luck this weekend)
In Coversation with Ken Loach (March 5th)
Clement Virgo moderates Lift Out Loud (March 7th)
