Splice This! Super 8 Film Festival

It is the best of times and the worst of times for Super 8 in the city.

Splice This! has been around for an impressive 9 years, screening hundreds of super 8 films, lighting a fire under super-filmmakers and giving them a venue to screen their work (and, of course, a chance to party with like-minded artisans).

This weekend is the, alas, final Splice This! Super 8 Film Festival. Yes. It's over. All good things must come to an end - make sure you're there for the final sprint Friday and Saturday.

Screenings happen at Xspace in Kensington Market (303 Augusta). Make your way over on Friday for 9pm for OVER-Part 1, and if you likes what you sees do it again - same time, same place, Saturday for OVER-Part 2.

Yes, the theme this year is, appropriately, OVER.

Also, on Saturday night
-7pm- Homemade Movies: Home Movie History Project. This year's theme -Have Camera, Will Travel. From the description on the website, it looks like they'll be showing some really old travel footage - the most recent piece is of Hawaii in the 70s, the earliest is a luxury cruise of the West Indies in the 30s. Intriguing, no?
-11pm- Soundstripe - live music from local musicians as soundtracks to their films. Like it used to be in the good old days. But cooler.

Go. Now. Before it's too late...
