7 stores in Toronto where you can buy accessories made by Canadian designers

Accessories by Canadian designers can be a trick to find amongst all the jewelry, hats, and scarves that litter stores around Toronto. Here are some of my favourite spots to find a bunch of good brands, or in a few cases, a single superb Canadian label.

Bicyclette Boutique
This independent shop just celebrated the first anniversary of its permanent West Queen West home. The small store serves up a variety of fun, whimsical embellishments for the sort of girl who likes her hair clips sequined and her scarves bright. Labels include Lauren Elan, Biko, Scarf Party, and Denj.

Frock
Frock is another cutsie boutique for less jaded hearts than mine. They carry Nella Bella bags, which are in the wardrobe rotation of almost every fashion editor, blogger, and stylist in the city. Nella Bella bags for men and women are on-trend, functional, and made of eco-friendly material. I really can't emphasize functional enough--they're loaded with pockets and compartments in just the right places. Labels include Headmistress, Biko, and Nella Bella.

Trove
Trove stocks an eclectic range of accessories and gets customer service in a way so few do. They offer gift-wrapping, a gift registry, layaway, a free stylist service, and a customer appreciation list. Labels include Matt & Nat, Amy Kovach, Jon Klar, DSA, Karen Chopik, Kemi, and their own in-house brand of scarves.

Cupido Designs
Cupido carries mostly Italian designers and, in my opinion, one of the best Canadian-designed luxury jewelry brands. Hera Designs combines precious metals, uniquely cut gemstones, and diamond accents. Hera's clever layering of materials and distinct fused/two-tone jewels are mystical and unique; this is one of the only jewelry brands I can confidently identify by sight--everything else is mostly one big vintage-inspired, gold-plated blur.

Made You Look
Made You Look is a hub that represents over 100 local independent jewelry designers, which means pretty much countless style options and price points. They also have a unique list of on-site resident artists who specialize in custom wedding and engagement rings. Labels include ANOUK, Green Bijou, Amy Kovach, Roxanne Degen, MoonRox, Buttercup Days, and Sin Kim.

Eleven Boutique
This upscale Yorkville boutique skews a little mother-like on the clothes front, but has options for fancy girls of all generations when it comes to accessories. Labels include ROXX, Jessica Jensen, Karen McClintock, Shay Lowe, and Miss Mak.

Phillip Sparks
A little bit for women, but mostly for men, Philip Sparks' pop-up days are over now that he has a trendy new general store-esque boutique. His nostalgic accordion briefcases and 'tab belt' take on the classic braided belt are hot items of the moment. Also look for Philip's Danier collaboration in Danier stores across Canada this spring.
