Eliza Kozurno

Eliza Kozurno's jewelry an ode to film noir

Eliza Kozurno is one of my favourite Toronto jewelers -- her pieces are dark, dramatic, and definitely one-of-a-kind.

Her Fall/Winter 2010 collection, Imperfect Dream, launched at Chasse GardĂŠe last week, and has all the Eliza hallmarks: crocheted fabric, dangling (recycled) leather, and semi-precious stones.

"I was inspired by film noir," Kozurno says. Her work would be right at home on a black-and-white forties femme fatale, the intricate pieces shimmering on silver celluloid.

Kozurno loves working with textures. "Whether it's mixing matte leather and semi-precious stones, I like doing the opposite. I love asymmetry," she says.

The luxe detailing, from fluttery leather tassels to fine wirework and soft ribbons, sets Kozurno apart from her peers (I especially love the bib necklaces strung with crystals and woven bits).

The collection may be called Imperfect Dream, but her work looks pretty damn perfect to me.
