Amsterdam Brewery

Amsterdam Brewery to relocate for condo development

The Amsterdam Brewery is on the move. The large independent brewery, currently operating out of a facility on Lower Bathurst, will be packing up this Fall and re-locating to a a yet undisclosed, larger location in Toronto. Representatives from Amsterdam have confirmed that the move has been in the works for a while and instigated by their desire to increase their capacity.

Amsterdam has a long history in Toronto's downtown core. They were the city's first brewpub when they opened in 1986 where the Jack Astor's now is at Richmond and John. Later, they expanded to what is now the Bier Mrkt at King and Portland before moving to their much larger, current digs in what used to be a maintenance facility operated by Loblaws.

This next move is no doubt fueled by the growing appetite for craft beer (and Amsterdam's ability to grow its market share) as well as the condo boom taking place in the area. The building, which is leased (not owned) by the brewery, will be taken over by the developers behind Concord CityPlace so expect some beer inspired condo lifestyle presentation centre in our future.
