Zelda's will not reopen after electrical fire

One of Toronto's iconic dirty bingo/midday martini/patio party haunts was closed about two weeks ago, and now it looks like its doors will remain shut for good.

Fire broke out at Zelda's Living Well at around 2:45 a.m. on June 16, but owner Zelda Angelfire was optimistic that the restaurant would regain its footing. "Like when a broken heel makes you fall down in the middle of a number," she Tweeted, "we have every intention of getting back up and WERKing it!"

But it seems damage to the space was more severe than initially thought, and Angelfire announced the decision not to reopen in a letter posted on Zelda's website.

"Unfortunately, due to the capital and energy required to start all over again, we have regrettably decided not to re-open."

"Zelda's has had an incredible run over the past 15 years and touched the lives, I hope in a good way, of so many people. It's been an absolute blast for us to be a part of and to have served this amazing community."
