Cfood Toronto

Time to Throw Cfood into the Deadpool?

Cfood, the midtown restaurant that promised a "modern seafood experience" unveiled a new look this week - the oh so fashionable motif of newspaper-lined windows. Talking to staff at the Cupcake Shoppe next door they seemed just as surprised as anyone at the turn of events. There's no notice of closure on the door, no letter to customers on their web site. Just newspapers.

Cfood is one of a string of places owned by the Eatertainment Group, the behemoth that successfully launched Panorama and the Bloor Street Diner but then followed up with a series of gimmicky offerings that haven't exactly been printing money.

Two doors south MEATing was conceived as an homage to carnivores but poor service plagued the restaurant from the beginning and it didn't help that the more exotic meats like ostrich and bison were almost never available.

When it shut its doors Picnic quickly resurfaced in the same location with picnic tables, checkered napkins, potato salad and other comfort food. But like it predecessor the restaurant gained a reputation for bad service and mediocre food.

For now, we'll put Cfood into the Deadpool but we'll keep an eye on it to see whether this is a permanent entry or simply a renovation in the making.
