Honda Indy marks a messy weekend on Toronto roads

It's going to be a loud and busy weekend in Toronto as the Honda Indy and a variety of festivals roll through town, bringing with them plenty of road closures to be aware of. In addition to that, there will be a significant TTC subway closure to make getting around in North York a bit more complicated.

The Honda Indy is the main event this weekend in terms of its impact on traffic. Many streets around the Ex are already closed for the race. Strachan is closed southbound between Fleet Street and Lake Shore Boulevard West, while the latter street is closed in both directions from Strachan to Ontario Drive until 11 p.m. on Sunday.

Also on tap is the annual Festival of South Asia, which will close Gerrard Street between Glenside and Coxwell avenues from 10 a.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Monday. Streets in the surrounding area will also be difficult to navigate on account of the closure.

The Bloor West Kids Festival will shut down a host of streets in the area, including Windermere Avenue, Glendonwynne Road, Armadale Avenue, Durie Street and Kennedy Avenue from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

And the Junior Carnival, a lead up to Caribana, will close McLevin Avenue between Sewells and Neilson roads from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Neilson will also be closed from McLevin to Finch Avenue during this time.

Ongoing construction on Richmond Avenue has reduced westbound traffic to one lane between Church and York streets, which can sometimes push congestion all the way back to Parliament Street.

This weekend's TTC closure involves Line 4 (Sheppard), which will be shut down on both Saturday and Sunday for track work. Shuttle buses will be running in place of underground service.
