Toronto taxi strike

Toronto taxi strike called off for NBA All-Star weekend

Toronto taxi drivers won't strike during NBA All-Star weekend after all, announced United Taxi Workers Association head Paul Sekhon at a news conference this afternoon.

Members of the United Taxi Workers Association met with a group of city councillors earlier today, and despite plans to block the Gardiner Expressway and circle the Air Canada Centre on Friday, local cab drivers will instead work to help all of us - locals and visitors alike - travel safely over this very busy weekend.

Some councillors, including Kristyn Wong-Tam agreed today that UberX is operating illegally in Toronto. Last week, however, city council voted against seeking an immediate court injunction against the ride-sharing service.
