twitter mayoral talent

Turning to Twitter for some new mayoral talent

One of the things that I've been hearing (and saying) a lot is how uninspiring the current crop of mayoral candidates are. Despite a plethora of debates, it seems that no one has really stepped up with a vision for the city that's captured the imagination of its citizens.

George Smitherman and Sarah Thomson have grand plans for our subway system (though few believe they're realistic), Rob Ford is something of a municipal Mike Harris, Joe Pantalone's just there, and Rocco Rossi -- for all of his team's social media savvy -- is wasting time talking about broken blenders and pool hours.

What to do? John Tory's not going to run (though that won't be a certainty until September 10). And despite mild rumours to the contrary, David Miller doesn't appear to have any plans to make a late entry.

Surely in a city of our size, with such talent and diversity, there's someone waiting to swoop in and save this race from the incredible boredom it's been defined by.

But who?

Well, here's some of the people our Twitter followers suggested. Some suggestions are genuine while others are sarcastic (see the one on Sarah Thomson), but I bet a number of them would stand a fighting chance!
