Your local morning news roundup for Friday March 28th, 2008:

Toronto's newest mega-club Circa (which opened in October 2007) has finally made it over a remaining hurdle with the AGCO and can rest assured that its liquor license is secure for now. For years, club owner Peter Gatien has been embroiled in legal battles to get the club up and running. In related news, Circa was awarded best new venue in the world, at the 6th Annual Club World Awards in Miami.

If you could take any vehicle (other than a friggin' tank) and go on a wild and destructive joyride through the city, may I suggest the abhorrent yet tough stretch limo Hummer. Last night, a woman who lost all sense of better judgment stole one, and hit at least three cars, a hydro pole, a person, and a house before being apprehended.

TTC Strike Watch:
Things are only getting worse, now that signal, electrical and communication workers represented by another transit Union (CUPE Local 2) is jumping on the strike bandwagon. "The system wouldn't be run safely if we did go on strike," warns union chief Mike Santos. How terribly wrong is it that in addition to facing threats of work-to-rule inconveniences, Torontonians are also facing threats to our safety?

Former Toronto mayor David Crombie is voicing his concerns and backing the city's bid to halt the development of Wal-Mart led bad big-box retail in Leslieville. How is it that the unelected Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) continue to have the most influence over major city developments?

We're learning far more than we ever wanted to know about rogue city councillor Rob Ford's personal life. Following his arrest for allegedly committing assault and uttering death threats, new details are emerging that suggest that it may be his wife that has gone over the edge.

It's amazing that despite three years in a row without qualifying for the playoffs, the Leafs still manage to fill the ACC with suits willing to shell out hundreds of dollars to watch horrible hockey.

Oh, and a little birdy told me that blogTO will be giving away concet tickets this afternoon... heads up!
