Morning Brew: February 11th, 2008

Your frigid cold morning news roundup for Monday February 11th, 2008:

Dashboard GPS units are becoming a hot item for thieves to snag from cars and sell on the black-market. Police say they're not stupid either - they look under the seats too, so if you pull off your gadget to eliminate the visual lure, be sure to also remove the suction cup that holds it, and/or better yet, take the unit with you. Can a GPS be embedded with a device so it can be tracked by GPS?

It is friggin' cold out there. CityNews has an info-piece on frostbite versus frostnip. I've never been confused or felt the need for clarification on the differences between the two conditions because I've never even heard of "frostnip". I'm convinced that they made it up because MS Word underlines it in red. Extreme cold weather warnings are in effect.

I'm not a morning person (despite being up at the crack of dawn to bring you the Morning Brew every weekday), and much like MPPs I prefer to work into the night. But that could all change for the Ontario legislature. Proposed changes in their workday would have them starting at 9:30am rather than 1:30pm and some think the benefits will be far reaching (to the point that we'll even see an "improved democracy").

Toronto ex-pat Feist went 0 for 4 at the Grammys last night, losing out to the troubled Amy Winehouse. Perhaps if Feist had developed a nasty addiction or two and a really bad attitude she would have got more media attention leading up to the awards ceremony and improved her chances? Oh, and Kanye West totally sucks, especially live.

The National Post is looking for the sexiest Torontonian. A celebrity and non-celebrity will both be crowned in two separate categories, but first they need you to send in photos and descriptions of people you'd like to nominate.
